In this episode, we speak to Figen Murray OBE and Nick Aldworth about the UK Protect Duty and the release of part 2 of the Manchester Arena Inquiry.

Nick is the former U.K. National coordinator for counter terrorism and led the operational protective security responses to the London 2017 terrorist attacks. Following these attacks, Nick recognised a need for the U.K. to improve the legislative landscape relating to protective security.

In 2018, Nick met our other guest Figen Murray, the mother of Martyn Hett, who sadly lost his life during the 2017 bombing at the Manchester Arena. Building on their shared passion to improve protective security within the U.K., a strong friendship and working relationship grew. Utilising Nicks knowledge of protective security needs, alongside Figen’s ability to articulate the impact that terrorism has on victims, survivors and their families - they campaigned for change and the creation of Martyn’s Law, which is more formerly known as the Protect Duty.

As if this wasn’t enough, Nick shares his expertise across the globe and founded Risk 2 Resolution - providing sought after threat and risk services to businesses, and Figen has become a terrorism academic, having completed a master’s degree, and proactively shares her knowledge at events and conferences across the U.K. and further afield. In 2020 Figen was presented with the counter terror outstanding contribution Ward, and was also rightly awarded an OBE in the 2022 New Year's Honours list.
