As you may have heard there is a growing interest in Holland in crossbreeding Iberian mares and warmblood stallions. This summer the KWPN studbook organised a ‘crossbreed inspection’ for the 30 crossbreds that are by now born in Holland. They are very pleased with what they saw. In consultation with the KWPN and some Dutch breeders I was asked to do some research and create a social media and podcast series, looking at the phenomenon of crossbreeding from different angles. Enjoy listening to the first episode of a new podcast serie with the main theme: “ Is there a need for warmblood/Iberian crosses in Holland?”
In this episode i was at the first viewing of the KWPN stallion selection where the very first crossbreed ever was selected for the final. I spoke to Pushkine’s breeder Christine Nevejan, his trainer Marcel van Maanen, KWPN breeder Nico Witte, former KWPN judge Arie Hamoen, KWPN inspection member Luc Smetsers, Crossbreeder Marlies Reibestein and Portugese dressage trainer, rider and breeder Pedro Teixeira Farto.
