This week, Mish is our guest on the PLAFONDDIENST podcast: an open, honest, and sometimes confrontational episode about her crazy tour schedule and women's safety - not just at festivals, but certainly in general.
From Reverze to EPIK for 22,000 people in Australia. From Tokyo to Mexico. Mish travels the world and has become a fixture on the biggest raw stages. She saves time zones like Pokémon cards and has women's backs when it comes to harassment. "I'm a girl's girl," says the Australian hardstyle DJ.
With the recent revelations about the techno files, Amelie Lens spoke out about women's safety. The removal of names like Shlømo and CARV from several lineups has sparked a broader discussion about inappropriate behavior: this topic is more relevant than ever within the harder styles (and beyond).
Mish shares her experiences. "I get comments about how I dress. Especially older men on social media call me names. But what I wear, I wear for myself." She talks about inappropriate behavior on and around the dance floor, about how women are still judged differently than men, and about what needs to change structurally in the scene.
More women on the line-ups
Research by Hard News shows that on average, only 4.79% of the lineups at harder styles festivals are female. That means 1 woman for every 20 male artists. "It's important for women to be represented on stage, so they can inspire other girls that it is possible to break through as an artist." By comparison, at a festival like Awakenings, 27% of the lineup is female.
What does this moment demand of men? What should organizations do differently? And what advice does she want to give young women who are now taking their first steps in the industry? This is an episode about power, pink glitter, responsibility, and change.
